Potohar Region declared Olive Valley by govt

The government is taking keen interest in the development of agriculture sector.
The Potohar Region has been declared Olive Valley by the government.
This was stated by Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) National Project Director (Olive Production) and Senior Director (Crops) Dr Muhammad Munir Goraya while inaugurating two-day International Training Workshop on Geographic Information System (GIS) at the PARC Headquarters.
He said this training will be beneficial not only for trainees but also for the whole olive sector. This technology will help in identifying olive gardens in Pakistan and review current status of olive orchards in the country.
The training workshop was organised by PARC in collaboration with Instituto Agronomico per l’Oltremare (IAO) Italian government under the project titled ‘Technical Assistance and Support to the Ministries in the Agriculture Sector with Emphasis on Olive Production, Afghanistan, Nepal and Pakistan’.
Dr Goraya apprised the participants of the course that PARC will establish olive garden on 3,000 acres land out of this PARC has covered 1,500 acres land under ‘Olive Production Project’. Remaining coverage will be made in the next two years.
