Textile exports surge by 7pc, food’s 11.4pc
Pakistan’s textile exports showed growth of over 7 per cent in July to March period of the ongoing financial year over the corresponding period of last year despite unending power shortage in the country and global economic situation.
Pakistan has exported textile made commodities worth of $9.630 billion in first nine months (July-March) of the ongoing financial year 2012-2013 as against $8.993 billion of the same period of the preceding year, registering an increase of 7.09 per cent in one year.
According to the figures of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, the product-wise, in textiles group, showed that raw cotton exports went down by 65.07 per cent in July-March period of the ongoing fiscal year, cotton yarn exports increased by 29.17 per cent, cotton cloth 11.56 per cent, cotton carded exports declined by 93.86 per cent, yarn exports went up by 13.79 per cent, knitwear exports reduced by 2.84 per cent, bed-wear exports increased by 0.09 per cent, towels exports enhanced by 18.11 per cent, tents 30.89 per cent, readymade garments 10.27 per cent, art silk and synthetic textile exports reduced by 25.33 per cent, made-up articles were up by 6.31 per cent and other textile materials exports increased by 44.83 per cent in July-March period of 2012-13 against the July-March 2011-12 period, said the PBS data.
Meanwhile, the figures revealed that the country’s food exports also registered an increased of 11.40 per cent in July-March period of the ongoing fiscal year 2012-13. The break-up of food group exports revealed that rice exports went down by 7.12 per cent in the period under review, fish exports went up by 4.40 per cent, fruits exports enhanced by 6.47 per cent, vegetables exports increased by 60.94 per cent, pulses exports reduced by 50 per cent, tobacco exports reduced by 23.06 per cent, wheat exports declined by 56 per cent, spices exports increased by 45.54 per cent, oil seeds export increased by 21.42 per cent, meat 28.38 per cent and all other food items exports surged by 12.97 per cent in the period under review.
Meanwhile, in other manufactures group, exports of carpets, rugs and mats decreased by 5.14 per cent, sports goods exports decreased by 1.55 per cent and leather exports went up by 6.38 per cent during July-March period of the current fiscal year. Similarly, the engineering goods exports declined by over 54 per cent in July-March period of the current fiscal year against the same period last year.
