TDAP organises seminar on export of Kinn
Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) Faisalabad organised a seminar on export of Kinnow at Sargodha here on Wednesday which was participated by a large number of kinnow growers and exporters. Addressing the seminar, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, Islamabad Muhammad Ashraf highlighted International Marketing and Opportunities.
He said the government was endeavouring to help exporters enhance their awareness in context of product quality and how to find out the opportunities which exist in the global markets. “This has been a very successful informative activity for the Kinnow growers which will eventually help them in enabling their source output in an effective manner,” he added.
While delivering his welcome speech, President Sargodha Chamber of Commerce and Industry Qaiser Iqbal highlighted the importance of Kinnow sector and apprised the participants about the efforts being made by the Sargodha chamber for promotion of this sector. He appreciated TDAP Faisalabad efforts for organising the awareness seminar for the Kinnow growers of the region.
Malik Abdul Rehman, Planning Officer, Citrus Research Institute, Sargodha made his presentation on Pre-harvest issues which the growers confront while harvesting. He also detailed about the remedial measures. Dr Waqar of USAID, Pakistan described in detail about USAID AMD’s Intervention in the Citrus Sector. He highlighted challenges of Pakistani citrus sector. He said there were many issues affecting the Pakistan’s citrus sector and its export. “Good agriculture practices need to be opted by the growers to get better crop,” he said, adding that improvement in product quality was very important which was imperative for higher yields.
Dr Muhammad Ashfaq of the Quarantine Department highlighted another important issue regarding sanitary and phyto-sanitary measures. Jica Consultant at TDAP Karachi Masao Otsuka made his presentation on Market Opportunities in Japan. He said Japan was a vast market offering diverse opportunities to the Pakistani products. Director TDAP Faisalabad Allahdad Tarar thanked the seminar participants and apprised that TDAP Faisalabad efforts were aimed at creating awareness among the Kinnow growers to help that sector flourish amid the competitive global markets.
